Uncle J's Sourdough

We built Uncle J's Sourdough a custom Shopify theme, and the build paid for itself from real orders within its first week live.

The brief

Uncle J's Sourdough is a small-batch sourdough bakery. The site needed to feel warm and hand-built, the way the bread is. The features the bakery needed could have come from a stack of monthly apps. We built them into the site with custom code instead.

What we did

01

Built a custom Shopify theme

A warm, hand-built look made for a small-batch bakery, in the same spirit as the bread.

02

Wrote custom sections

Custom sections give the storefront the layouts the bakery needed.

03

Built the features into the site

We skipped the stack of monthly apps. The features the bakery needed run on custom code inside the theme.

04

Built the storefront pages

The home, shop, product, and our story pages are all part of the build.

05

Skipped the monthly fees

Jason Pitts says the features that would have cost hundreds of dollars a year now work for free.

Browse the site

Scroll the home page in the frame, or tap it to open the shop, product, and our story pages. Every page runs on the custom theme.

Where it stands

Uncle J's recovered the cost of the build from real orders within the first week the site was live.

Week 1

the build paid for itself from real orders

In their words

“Nathaniel built me a Shopify site that feels like Uncle J's: warm, handmade, the same as our bread. A part that stood out to me that other freelancers wouldn't take the time to do, is that instead of signing me up for a stack of monthly apps, he built the features I needed right into the site with custom code. Things that would have cost me hundreds of dollars a year now work for free. He listened to what I wanted and paid attention to the small stuff. I send other owners his way whenever I get the chance.”
